The Melrose Vocal Ensemble
Duruflé Requiem and Sung Compline
A rare opportunity to hear sacred music of real depth and beauty, brought to life by the much-loved Melrose Vocal Ensemble in one of the Borders most atmospheric settings.
The evening begins with Sung Compline, a short, contemplative service steeped in musical tradition. From the timeless purity of plainsong to luminous works by Purcell, John Taverner, and Thomas Tallis, this programme invites stillness and reflection in the candlelit surroundings of Holy Trinity Church.
The second half features Duruflé’s Requiem, a soaring, intensely moving work that blends ancient Gregorian chant with twentieth-century harmony. Accompanied by celebrated organist David Goodenough and a professional string quintet led by international violinist Gina McCormack, this performance brings exceptional musical quality to a small-town setting.
Melrose audiences rarely get the chance to experience sacred music of this calibre, performed live with such artistry. Whether you come for quiet contemplation or transcendent choral beauty, this promises to be a profoundly special evening.
